• If you sell goods into Europe or may wish to do so in the future, you probably need them to be "C E Marked"

  • Don't miss a sales opportunity. It may be too late when you have an enquiry.

"CE" Marks" provide a European Union-wide system of accreditation for a wide-range of products, enabling companies to trade freely across Europe.

In the past, each nation has operated its own system (BSI Kitemark, TUV etc.) and has required imported goods to be re-certified in each country in which they were to be marketed. This was a costly and time-consuming process.

The aim of the present system, introduced in 1993, is that manufacturers obtain certification within their own country, enabling them to use the CE symbol for their product. This is then accepted across the EU.

Within the UK, the ground rules are set out in the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 (SI 1992 No. 3073), which implement Council Directive 89/393/EEC (The Machinery Directive).
We can advise you on the Regulations and can help you with the documentation needed to obtain CE compliance.

Q. Why should I be bothered about CE Marking?

A. If you want to sell (most) goods into the European Market (EU), you need to have the CE marking on your product. Consider the marking as a kind of passport for your product into the member states of the European market.

Q. What if I don't want to put this CE Marking on my goods?

A. If your goods are covered by one of the DIRECTIVES, then you have made a decision not to sell your goods into the EU. Without the CE Marking you will not sell into the EU.

Q. I looked at the Directives and my goods are covered, but they don't have the CE Marking as my goods were being sold into the EU before the DIRECTIVE came into force.

A. If you want to continue selling them, you have to get the CE Marking on the goods.
